Skanska’s office building Nordica Ostrava has been awarded for Ecological contribution in the Building of the Moravian-Silesian Region 2009 competition. The awards were given by an expert jury and the ceremony took place at a gala on June 14th, 2010 in the Antonin Dvorak Theatre in Ostrava.

The expert jury evaluates overall architectonic aspects of the building and how it fits with the surroundings, quality of construction works and usage of materials and products. Members of the jury also evaluate functional requirements and conception of the building structure and as well special perfection of the building.

The promoters of this year’s fourth year of the competition are:

  • The Association of Building Entrepreneurs of the Czech Republic
  • Czech Chamber of Authorized Engineers and Technicians active in Development
  •  Moravian-Silesian Region
  •  The Community of Architects

Personal patronage over the competition is given by the president of Moravian-Silesian Region Jaroslav Palas.

“We have been focusing on sustainable and energy efficient buildings for many years. Nordica Ostrava was the first building in the Czech Republic to be certified as EU GreenBuilding and we are now very proud to receive the award for Ecological contribution in the Building of the Moravian-Silesian Region 2009 competition,“ says Britta Cesar, Managing Director of Skanska Property Czech Republic . “Environmental conscious buildings are a win-win phenomena. We reduce the impact on the environment and at the same time the tenants benefit from lower energy bills and a healthier working environment.

Nordica Ostrava has an energy consumption that is 30% lower than required by the Czech norms. The building, that was the first office building in Czech Republic to be awarded EU GreenBuilding certification for energy efficiency, was completed in 2009. The seven-floor building has a rentable area of approximately 12,000 sqm high-quality and flexible designed A-class offices. The location in the periphery of the historical core center of Ostrava, between the Českobratrská and Soukenická streets, provides perfect connection to both public transport and main roads connection.
